Who needs a visa to Vietnam?

Only citizens of certain countries can visit Vietnam without an entry visa. They include:

+ Most citizens of ASEAN Member States, including, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Lao citizens, do not need a visa to enter Vietnam within 30 days. While passport holders from the Philippines can enter Vietnam within 21 days, Brunei citizens are not required visa to Vietnam within 14 days. They only need to show their return tickets to apply for popular passport. Only citizens of Timor-Leste are required to get a visa for Vietnam.

+ Passport holders from Korea, Japan, Russia, Germany, France, the United Kingdom (UK), Italy, Spain, Belarus and the Scandinavian nations (Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland) do not need a visa for their stay under 45 days but they must show their return ticket if they arrive to Vietnam via visa exemption.

The two groups above need to apply Vietnam visa if they want to stay the free period longer than prescribed.

All other citizens are required to get a Vietnam entry visa.

Passport requirement:

Passport must be valid for at least 06 months from the date of exit.

How to obtain a Vietnamese visa:

Vietnamese visa can be obtained electronically at the Vietnam Embassy or Consulate in your country, or at an international airport in Vietnam (for holder of a Visa Approval Letter issued by Vietnam Immigration Department)

1. Electronic visa: Passport holders from a number of countries can apply for an electronic visa using the web portal of Vietnam Immigration Department (https://www.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/). Please consult this website for more information on fees and procedures. Note that it may take up to 07 days for an application to be processed.

2. Application at the Vietnam Embassy/Consulate in your country: Please contact the Embassy/Consulate directly (by phone or website). An application normally requires a passport that is valid for at least six months from the intended arrival date, and must have at least one blank visa page; 02 passport-sized photographs (4×6 cm); a completed visa application form and the application fee.

3. Visa issued upon arrival: for this method, it is advised that the visa applicant engages with travel agencies that can process all the paperwork needed to obtain a Visa Approval Letter from the Vietnam Immigration Department. The applicant can then receive the stamped visa at the airport of entry.
